At the foothills of Mount Pelion, the mountain of the Centaurs, and 40 km from Volos, lies the historic main village of Argalasti.
Visitors have the opportunity to explore dozens of hiking trails, as well as scenic road routes winding through olive groves and pine-covered landscapes.
Argalasti, along with its coastal settlements, attracts a large number of visitors who enjoy its crystal-clear waters and traditional cuisine.
Near the traditional village square stands the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, built in 1886. One of the most impressive landmarks is the church’s marble neoclassical bell tower, constructed in 1913, with a square base measuring 10 meters and a height of 25 meters. It features two Russian bells and a Swiss clock, inspired by the bell tower of Agia Fotini in Smyrna. The church honors its patron saints with a large traditional festival held in the village square on June 29. Another well-known festival worth visiting takes place on July 19, in honor of Prophet Elias.
In the wider area, remains of ancient buildings as well as artifacts from antiquity have been discovered, many of which can still be seen incorporated into traditional houses of the region.
A short distance from the square is the old School of Higher Education where Kostas Varnalis once taught; it has since been restored.
Three kilometers from the village lies the Monastery of Saint Nicholas, which has been assigned to the University of Thessaly and can accommodate visitors in its cells upon prior arrangement with the person in charge.
At a short distance from the village, visitors can enjoy the blue waters of both the Pagasetic Gulf and the Aegean Sea.
Argalasti is the capital of the Municipality of South Pelion and offers a wide range of shops and dining establishments. It also has three ATMs and a Health Center.
Finally, in our village you can find many traditional local products in the area’s shops, as well as at the weekly open-air market held every Saturday within walking distance of the accommodation.
We look forward to welcoming you to the most traditional village of South Pelion, where you can enjoy our authentic culture, crystal-clear seas, dozens of beaches, and charming fishing villages.
